Republic of the Philippines
Province of Davao del Norte
Municipality of Asuncion

Asuncion

The place of Banana Plantations, Coconut Plantations, Rice Fields and other Agricultural products made from Asuncion, Davao del Norte.

Asuncion for the 3rd time won as the Cleanest and Greenest Municipality in Davao del Norte. Asuncion is now a Hall of Famer in the Provincial Level and recently adjudged as the Cleanest and Greenest in Region XI in 2002 and an entry to the National Level.

The Municipality of Asuncion became a regular municipal district in February 23, 1921 by virtue of Executive Order No. 8, signed by Governor General Francis Burton Harrison, duly endorsed by the Provincial Board of Davao under Resolution Numbers 927 and 393. Two districts were created: the District of Camansa and the District of Saug. Each district consists of 5 barrios.

In the early part of 1948, Executive Order No. 156 promulgated by then President Elpidio Quirino, made Asuncion a regular town and originally named the municipality New Leyte. On September of the same year, Executive Order No. 173 was issued changing its name to Municipality of Saug.

Republic Act No. 1675 was passed in Congress on June 30, 1957 renaming the Municipality of Saug to Municipality of Asuncion in honor of its Patron Saint Nuestra Seņora dela Asuncion.

The early inhabitants of the Municipality were the Atas and Mandayas. In the early 1930’s migrants from Leyte, Bohol, Cebu and other parts of the Visayas settled in the town and lived peacefully with the early settlers.

At present, the Municipality of Asuncion has twenty six (26) barangays with a total land area of 41,152 hectares representing 2.3% of the total land area of the Province of Davao.
